How to write to an author by mail

Address it care of the publisher. Big publishers accept reader mail for their authors and forward it — Penguin Random House and Simon & Schuster route it c/o the book's imprint; Hachette and Macmillan use a central “Author Mail” desk. Each author page below has the exact lines to use.
Send a letter, not a parcel. Publishers won't forward cash, gifts, or books to be signed, and most ask you not to send them. A letter is the surest thing to reach the author.
A reply isn't guaranteed. Best-selling authors get far more mail than they can answer. Add your return address to give yourself the best chance of a reply or a signed bookplate.
Confirm the current publisher. Authors occasionally change houses; the author's own website is the best place to double-check before you send.
