How Georgia inmate mail works
- Georgia delivers inmate mail to each prison directly. Address it to the inmate’s full committed name and GDC ID number, the unabbreviated prison name, and the facility’s mailing address (a P.O. box for many prisons, a street address for others).
- Every envelope must show your full name and return address. Mail without a complete sender return address is rejected.
- Both incoming and outgoing mail is opened and inspected for contraband before delivery. There is no limit on the number of pages, but nothing larger than 8" wide by 10" tall is allowed.
- Confirm the person’s current facility on GDC’s offender lookup before mailing — people are transferred between prisons without notice.
