How Maine inmate mail works
- Maine routes first-class personal mail to the facility’s address on Cushing Road in Warren (a shared mail-processing location), even when the resident is housed at a facility in another town. Address it to the resident’s full name and MDOC number, then the facility name and its Cushing Road, Warren, ME 04864 address.
- Letters, notes, and greeting cards must be on plain white paper, written or printed in black or blue ink only (pencil must be black). Coloured paper, coloured ink, and heavy shading are rejected.
- No foreign substance on the paper or envelope — no perfume, stickers, tape, glitter, glue, crayon, marker, coloured pencil, lipstick, or stains. Only the postage and a single return-address label may be affixed.
- Every envelope must show a verifiable sender name and return address. Send only through the U.S. Postal Service. Mail is opened and inspected at the facility (it is not routinely photocopied or digitized).
