How Ohio inmate mail works

  • As of January 30, 2025, all personal letters and cards go to the ODRC Mail Processing Center (OMPC) in Youngstown — not the prison. Mail sent to the institution is forwarded but delayed.
  • Address it to the inmate’s full committed name and inmate number (a letter followed by digits, e.g. A555555), then the OMPC address. Include your full first and last name and return address.
  • Personal mail is opened and scanned; the inmate receives a copy on a tablet or a printout, not your original.
  • This central address is for personal mail only. Legal mail, business correspondence, and publications (books, magazines, newspapers) are handled separately and are NOT sent to OMPC.
  • Send only paper that scans cleanly — no crayon or marker, perfume, stickers, glitter, tape, or stains.

  • Cash, checks, money orders, gift cards, or postage stamps
  • Any object other than paper (no polaroids, laminated items, or enclosures)
