How it works

Four steps. Most letters take under two minutes from sign-in to mailed.

  1. 1

    Type or upload your response

Reference the notice number and tax year from the IRS notice you received. Address each item raised in the notice.

  2. 2

    Attach supporting documents

W-2s, 1099s, receipts, bank statements — up to five attachments per letter.

  3. 3

Use the IRS address from the notice

Each IRS notice prints a specific reply address. Use that exact address — different notices route to different IRS service centers.

  4. 4

    We mail within 24 hours

You receive a dated email confirmation. The PDF copy is kept on your order page.

Frequently asked questions

What address should I send my reply to?

Use the exact address printed on the IRS notice you received. IRS notices route to specific service centers based on the notice type and your state of residence — sending to the wrong address can delay or misroute your reply.

Do I need to include the IRS notice number?

Yes. Always include the IRS notice number (e.g. CP2000), the tax year, and your taxpayer identification number at the top of your response. Without these, the IRS cannot match your reply to the file.

Should I send by Certified Mail with Return Receipt?

For high-stakes responses (audits, large balance due notices, deadline-sensitive replies, identity theft replies), Certified Mail with Return Receipt provides proof of timely receipt. The IRS recognizes Certified Mail postmarks as the date of filing for many response deadlines. PostPal mails standard First-Class Mail; for Certified Mail, contact us before paying.

How long do I have to respond?

IRS notices print a deadline. Common windows are 30 days (CP501), 60 days (CP2000 disputes), or 90 days (Statutory Notice of Deficiency). Respond before the deadline. Missing the deadline can result in tax assessments or loss of appeal rights.

Can I include lots of records?

Yes. PostPal mails up to 100 pages per letter under the extended-page option. Most IRS responses fit comfortably. Organize records by tax year and reference each one in your written response.

Should I keep a copy of what I sent?

Always. Your order page on PostPal stores the exact PDF that was printed and mailed. Keep your own copy of receipts and any supporting documents in case the IRS requests them again.
