Where to mail a HireRight background-check dispute
To dispute an error on your HireRight background-check report by mail, send your letter to HireRight, Attn: Consumers Department, 14002 E. 21st Street, Suite 1200, Tulsa, OK 74134. HireRight is a specialty consumer reporting agency that runs pre-employment screening — criminal records, employment history, and education verification — for employers. Key facts
- Mailed disputes to HireRight go to HireRight, Attn: Consumers Department, 14002 E. 21st Street, Suite 1200, Tulsa, OK 74134.
- HireRight reports employment-screening information (criminal records, employment/education history) — not credit accounts or loans.
- If a background check contributed to an adverse hiring decision, the employer must give you a copy of the report and a summary of your FCRA rights before finalizing that decision (the "adverse action" process).
- The FCRA requires the screening company to investigate and respond, generally within 30 days of receiving your dispute.
- A HireRight dispute does not touch your Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion credit report — those are separate agencies tracking separate information.
How to send your letter
- 1
Get a copy of your report
Request your HireRight consumer report (or use the copy the employer sent you as part of an adverse-action notice) so you can identify exactly which entry is wrong.
- 2
Write a clear dispute letter
State your full name and current address, identify each item you are disputing, explain why it is wrong, and ask HireRight to correct or remove it.
- 3
Attach copies of your evidence
Include copies of anything that supports your dispute — a court dismissal record, an employment verification letter, or a diploma. Keep your originals.
- 4
Mail it to HireRight
Address it to HireRight, Attn: Consumers Department, 14002 E. 21st Street, Suite 1200, Tulsa, OK 74134. A dated proof of mailing starts the clock on the 30-day investigation window — especially important if a job offer is time-sensitive.
- 5
Send it without a printer
Write your dispute in PostPal, attach your evidence as PDFs or photos, and we print, envelope, and mail it via USPS for $5 — with a dated confirmation email as your proof of mailing.
Common questions
What is the mailing address to dispute a HireRight background check?
HireRight, Attn: Consumers Department, 14002 E. 21st Street, Suite 1200, Tulsa, OK 74134. Send a written dispute with copies of any supporting documents; HireRight must investigate, generally within 30 days.
A job offer was withdrawn because of my background check — what are my rights?
Before taking adverse action based on a background check, an employer must give you a copy of the report and a "Summary of Your Rights Under the FCRA," and give you a reasonable chance to dispute it before the decision is finalized. If you weren't given this notice, that itself may be an FCRA violation.
How long does the investigation take?
Generally 30 days from when the company receives your dispute. Keeping dated proof of mailing establishes when that window started — important if a hiring decision is time-sensitive.
Could the same error be on a background check from a different company?
Only HireRight will investigate a dispute sent to it. If you've had background checks run by more than one screening company (for example First Advantage or Sterling), and the same error appears on both, you'll need to dispute with each separately.
